Exemptions if your child is in school or distance education

If your child is school age, you may be exempt from mutual obligation requirements. What exemptions may apply depends on how your child is schooled.

If your child is home schooled or in distance education

You may be exempt from requirements for up to 12 months at a time. This may apply if you oversee your dependent child’s home schooling or school distance education.

To get an exemption you need to provide proof of either:

  • registration for home schooling
  • enrolment of your child in distance education.

If you don’t need to register or you’re exempt because of your state or territory rules, you’ll need to provide proof of home schooling. This proof can include workbooks, examination results or lesson plans. If this applies to you, call us on your regular payment line.
