Before you can access the Chronic Wound Consumables Scheme (CWCS) portal in PRODA you need to link your valid Aphra number or HPI-I to an individual account in Health Professional Online Services (HPOS).
To do this:
- Log in to your PRODA account.
- Select Link identifiers on the HPOS tile.
- Follow the prompts to link your identifiers.
Once you’ve linked your identifiers, the CWCS tile will appear when you select the Go to service option on the HPOS tile.
CWCS health professional eligibility and training
To be eligible to register for the CWCS, you need to complete Best practice wound care training.
You also must register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) as one of the following specialities:
- an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner
- a medical practitioner in a primary care setting, including general practitioner
- a nurse (registered and nurse practitioner)
- a podiatrist.
After you complete the required wound care training, you can register for the CWCS through PRODA.
If you’re registering for the first time, you must register within 6 months of completing the wound care training. If you miss this timeframe, you’ll need to complete the training again.
You must complete a training refresher course and re-register every 3 years.
CWCS participant eligibility and enrolment
To be eligible to participate in the CWCS, participants must have a chronic wound and diabetes, and be either:
- 65 years or older
- 50 years of age or older for First Nations people.
An eligible participant can only be enrolled to participate in the CWCS by an approved health professional.
CWCS product ordering
Only an approved health professional can make an order on behalf of an eligible participant through the CWCS.
Orders for wound consumables are made through the CWCS portal in PRODA.
If you’re unable to access PRODA, you can call the eBusiness Service Centre (Medicare) phone line and select Option 3, Monday to Friday 8 am-5 pm local time.
Information about products available through the CWCS can be found in the CWCS Product Schedule on the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing website.
CWCS approved distributors
All CWCS distributors are approved and managed by Department of Health, Disability and Ageing. CWCS distributors arrange the delivery of wound care products to the participant’s home or nominated address, at no cost to the participant.
If you wish to follow up on a CWCS order, please contact the eBusiness Service Centre (Medicare) phone line and select Option 3.
