Is a child in your care turning 14?

Published: 1 July 2025

To make sure that Medicare benefits continue to be paid correctly, children need to have bank details registered with us by the time they turn 14.

Once a child turns 14, they can update their bank details themselves if they choose.

To register a bank account with Medicare, you need to log in to your Medicare online account through myGov, or use the myGov app. The child in your care can also call us or visit a service centre with you.

You can register your own bank account or a separate bank account for a child. Only one bank account can be registered per person at a time.
