Child support at tax time

Published: 1 July 2026

There are things you need to do at tax time if you pay or receive child support.

If you pay or receive child support you need to tell us about your income.

You can do this by lodging your tax return with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

If you don’t need to do a tax return and complete a non-lodgement advice with the ATO, you also need to confirm your income using your Child Support online account through myGov.

If you got Family Tax Benefit or Child Care Subsidy you’ll also need to confirm your income using your Centrelink online account through myGov.
