Bulk billing and hospital consent from 1 July 2026

Published: 1 July 2026

You’ll be asked to give your consent when you’re bulk billed for a GP visit or getting care in hospital.

From 1 July 2026, when you’re bulk billed for a GP visit, you’ll be asked to give your consent so your healthcare provider can be paid on your behalf. This means you don’t need to pay or claim anything.

You may be asked to sign a digital or paper form, or confirm your consent another way.

If you receive care in a hospital, you’ll also be asked to give your consent as part of your care.
