2026 Census through myGov – offering another way to have your say

Published: 25 August 2026

We helped make the 2026 Census easier to access by giving Australians a simple way to get updates and reminders and securely complete the Census online through myGov.

Australia’s first national Census was held in 1911. It took years to plan and coordinate, and collecting results was a manual task. Collectors ventured across the country by horse, cart, bicycle and even foot, to visit every home, from the suburbs through to the outback. And it wasn’t until 1914 that the results were ready to share.

115 years later, myGov has become the latest option for simple, convenient access to the Census.

This year, for the first time, people could subscribe through myGov to get information, reminders and a secure link to complete the Census for their household.

We worked closely with the Australian Bureau of Statistics on this new myGov feature, expanding the options available to help people access the Census. As a result, people could get updates and access the Census through a familiar, secure channel already used by millions for essential government information and services.

Almost 130,000 people subscribed through their myGov account, making it easier for them to stay informed and take part in the Census.

We delivered a simple experience for customers while strengthening Australia’s position as a leader in digital government service delivery.
