Social work discipline for the National Graduate Program professional pathway
If you have a degree and want a career in social work, we want you.
Type of degree
We’re looking for graduates with a social work qualification that is recognised by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). You must be eligible for membership to the AASW.
You could also apply for the generalist pathway. It gives you the opportunity to work on diverse projects and learn how different areas operate. Or, apply for both.

Range of work
In the social work discipline, you may work with the most disadvantaged individuals, families and communities. You’ll also work with other stakeholders to inform business planning, service delivery and design of programs.
You’ll work on a range of projects and tasks like:
- assessments and interventions in relation to people’s income support entitlements, safety, wellbeing and needs
- short term crisis intervention
- social casework as a planned intervention
- community engagement
- delivering training, case consultation or professional advice to agency staff.
