Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health assessments

If you’re an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australian, you can get a health assessment to help find and treat illnesses earlier.

You can get the health assessment with your usual doctor or clinic. They’ll:

  • ask you about your health
  • do a physical check up
  • organise tests
  • write a health plan.

If you’re at risk or have an ongoing illness you can access Medicare follow up health and wellbeing services.

Ask your doctor, nurse, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health worker or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner about your health assessment.

You can have a health check every 9 to 12 months. Try to use the same doctor or clinic so they can get to know your health needs. If you change doctors, tell them about your old doctor’s care.
