Continued dispensing

You can supply medicines to customers in an emergency under continued dispensing of PBS medicines.

Continued dispensing lets you supply eligible PBS and RPBS medicines to a patient when:

  • there’s an immediate need
  • they can’t get a prescription.

A patient can only receive one supply of an eligible medicine every 12 months.

The National Health Act 1953 regulates continued dispensing. It’s your responsibility to make sure you follow the necessary legislation before supplying under continued dispensing.

You can find a list of medicines eligible for continued dispensing on the Federal Register of Legislation website.
