Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) updates

Published: 27 August 2025

The AIR due and overdue rules for Pneumococcal have been updated to support changes to the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

Prevenar 20 and Vaxneuvance will become standard vaccines within the AIR.

These vaccines will:

  • count towards a child’s vaccination status
  • be considered equivalent as other Pneumococcal vaccines within the AIR.

The recommended dose for Pneumococcal given at 6 months of age is now available to:

  • all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children regardless of location
  • children with specified medical risk conditions.

There are also changes to due and overdue rules for Pneumococcal for children born on or after 1 September 2023.

Find out more about these changes to NIP childhood and adolescence pneumococcal vaccine provider advice for health professionals on the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing website.
