You can still get a Health Care Card even if you can’t get a payment

Published: 20 March 2023

You may still be able to get a Health Care Card even if you don’t qualify for ABSTUDY, Youth Allowance or Austudy.

You may not be able to get a student payment due to your partner’s or parents’ income. They may earn more than the income limit.

You may still be able to get a Low Income Health Care Card to help you cover health care costs. This could include cheaper medicine or doctors’ visits.

We assess you for the card based on you and your partner’s income, if you have one. You don’t need to be on a payment with us to be eligible.

You can claim the card using your Centrelink online account through myGov.
