We’ve paused recovery of debts that may be affected by income apportionment

Published: 31 October 2023

Income apportionment ended on 7 December 2020. The debts we’ve paused recovery on relate to income earned prior to this.

We’ve done this in response to concerns with our past practice of apportioning employment income over more than one fortnight.

We’re sending text messages to customers so they know we’ve paused recovery on their debts. We’ll also send a letter from 6 November 2023 with more information.

If you get a payment from us or have a direct debit set up, we’ll pause your debt repayments for you.

If you make BPAY payments or electronic transfers from your bank account, you’ll need to stop those repayments yourself.

The pause will remain until we have advice on next steps. We’ll contact you about any changes.

Income apportionment is not Robodebt. Find out more about income apportionment.
