Watch out for active myGov and Services Australia scams

Published: 12 September 2023

Scammers are pretending to be from myGov, Medicare, Centrelink or Child Support.

Scammers will try to trick you into giving out your myGov sign in details, Customer Reference Number or other personal information.

They’ll try to contact you through:

  • text messages
  • emails
  • phone calls
  • social media, including apps like WhatsApp.

Scams can look genuine, and it can be hard to tell when something is fake.

We’ll never ask for your personal details via text message, instant message or private chat on social media. These aren’t secure ways to share information.

Call our Scams and Identity Theft Helpdesk on 1800 941 126 if you’ve:

  • opened a link in a suspicious text message, email or social media message
  • given out your myGov sign in details or other personal information.
