Support for people affected by the storms and floods in NSW

We have an allowance to help you if you’ve lost income due to the storms and floods in New South Wales that occurred from 9 November 2021.

You can claim Disaster Recovery Allowance for up to 13 weeks, starting from the date you lost income. Claims open Tuesday 14 December 2021.

You’ll get the maximum equivalent rate of JobSeeker Payment or Youth Allowance, depending on your personal circumstances.

You can’t get the allowance if you get any of the following payments during your claim period:

To be eligible, you need to meet the Local Government Area (LGA) criteria and other rules. If you have a partner, you can both get a payment. You need to make separate claims.

Centrelink debt

We’re temporarily pausing Centrelink debt recovery in affected Local Government Areas.

If you owe money, you don’t need to repay anything until July 2022, unless you choose to.

If you’re already making repayments for an existing debt, you can adjust or stop your payment arrangement.
