Rural bulk billing incentives are changing

17 December 2021

From 1 January 2022 the bulk billing incentive items you can claim will be based on your location.

You’ll be able to claim these items if you practice in a rural or remote location as classified by the Modified Monash Model (MMM). Patient eligibility rules still apply.

Changes to the MBS will scale rural bulk billing benefits, so higher incentives go to the areas that need them most. The changes will include the following service items:

  • medical - 10991, 10992, 75855, 75856, 75857, 75858
  • diagnostic imaging - 64991, 64992, 64993, 64994, 64995
  • pathology - 74991, 75861, 75862, 75863, 75864.

There are no changes for you if you work in a metropolitan area and can access the normal bulk billing incentive.

If you work in an MMM 2 location the amount you can claim won’t change.
