Sickness Allowance is stopping
10 December 2019
From 20 March 2020, there will no longer be any claims for Sickness Allowance.
From this date, JobSeeker Payment will be the main income support payment for Australians between 22 and Age Pension age. People who are sick or injured, and can’t work or study, may be eligible for it. This includes those that may have jobs and study to return too.
If your customer is getting Sickness Allowance they don’t need to do anything now. We’ll send them a letter or myGov message closer to that time with more details. The letter and message will tell them how to transfer to JobSeeker Payment if they need to.

From 1 January 2020, we won’t refer newly arrived refugees to jobactive until they’ve been in Australia for 12 months.
People who get Newstart Allowance don’t need to do anything, they’ll automatically transfer to JobSeeker Payment.
