Nil rate payment period changes from 1 July 2024

Published: 1 July 2024

A nil rate payment period starts when you report employment income and your total income is over the cut off point. This reduces your income support payment to $0.

From 1July 2024, the nil rate payment period increases from 6 to 12 fortnights in a row.

This change only applies if you’re getting one of the following:

  • Age Pension
  • Austudy
  • Carer Payment
  • Disability Support Pension
  • Farm Household Allowance
  • JobSeeker Payment
  • Parenting Payment Partnered
  • Parenting Payment Single
  • Youth Allowance for job seekers
  • Youth Allowance for Students and Apprentices.
