On the day you claim you must be living in Australia and also have one of the following:
- Australian citizenship
- a permanent visa
- a Special Category visa
- a certain temporary visa, that is a partner provisional or temporary protection type visa.
You must continue to meet these residence rules for each day of your Dad and Partner Pay period.
When you need to wait
If you've recently arrived as a resident in Australia, you may need to wait 2 years to get this payment.
The 2 years needs to be before the start of your Dad and Partner Pay period. For example, if your Dad and Partner Pay period starts on 1 April 2022, you need to have waited 2 years before this. This means you need to have been in Australia as a resident since 1 April 2020 to qualify.
There are some exemptions to this. Read more about the newly arrived resident’s waiting period.
