Proof of Life compliance interventions if you’re over 80 and live overseas

If you’re over 80 and live outside Australia you may need to complete a Proof of Life Certificate form.

We won’t start Proof of Life reviews until after 30 June 2020 because of restrictions applied as a result of COVID-19. If you haven’t returned a form we’ve already given you, we’ll give you an extension. Your payment won’t stop.

What Proof of Life is

A process you need to complete to prove you’re alive and entitled to continue to get your pension.

Who needs to do it

You may need to complete a Proof of Life Certificate form if you’re currently getting a relevant payment and are both:

  • living outside Australia
  • over 80 years old.

Relevant payments

We may send you a Proof of Life Certificate form if you get one of the following income support payments:

  • Age Pension
  • Disability Support Pension
  • Carer Payment.

How it works

If we send you a Proof of Life Certificate form, you’ll need to do all of the following:

  • complete the certificate
  • visit, in person, an authorised certifier as listed on the certificate and get it signed
  • return it to us before the due date.

You can mail it to us at:

Reply Paid 83340
CANBERRA BC ACT 2610 Australia

Your payment may stop if you don’t do all of these things. If your payment stops and we later get your completed form, we’ll do both of the following:

  • restore your payment
  • pay you any money you’re entitled to get.

Every 2 years we’ll send you a new form to verify your continued eligibility.

I haven’t received a form

If you haven’t received a form it could be for any of the following reasons:

  • you don’t get a relevant payment
  • you’re not aged 80 or older
  • your contact details aren’t up to date
  • we haven’t sent you a form yet.

If you’ve lost your form, contact us by mail or phone and we’ll send you a new one.

My contact details aren’t up to date

If your contact details aren’t up to date, we may not be able to contact you. If this happens your payment may stop. To update your details contact us on one of our International phone numbers.
