Carers

If you get a carer payment from us there are no changes to your payment due to coronavirus.

We’ll pay you Carer Supplement if you get Carer Payment or Carer Allowance for 1 July 2020. If you get Carer Allowance because you care for a child, you’ll also get Child Disability Assistance Payment. You don’t need to do anything. The payments are automatic. Coronavirus does not affect these payments.

Additional payments

You may get 1 or both Economic Support Payments. We'll pay these into your bank account automatically.

Respite days

Respite days are available for carers and care receivers who are separated due to coronavirus, or who are self-isolating. You can use 63 respite days each calendar year to take a break from caring without your payment stopping.

If you run out of respite days, call us on the carers line.

You must tell us if you use any respite days. You can do this online, or call us. Sign in to myGov and access your Centrelink online account. Then use the View/Update Absence from Care option from the Carer menu.
