If you’re an existing customer, read about changes to our payments and services due to coronavirus (COVID-19).

Financial help

If you’re already getting a payment from us you might get some extra help. You don’t need to claim anything. We’ll assess if you’re eligible for one or both of these payments:

If you get the Coronavirus Supplement, you won’t get the second Economic Support Payment in July 2020.

Payment changes

We’ve made changes to some of our payments and requirements due to COVID-19. Read more about changes to managing your payment.

Debts

We’ve paused a range of debt raising and recovery activities connected to social security payments. This includes Family Tax Benefit and Child Care Subsidy.

This ensures that during these difficult times you can focus on your personal situation.

This pause won’t apply if you already have a payment arrangement in place. If you want to keep paying off your debt, you don’t need to do anything. If you need to reduce, pause or stop your repayments, you need to call us on the Centrelink debt line.

This pause doesn’t apply to debt related activity connected to serious non-compliance or fraud.

International impacts

If you’re unable to return to Australia

Call International Services if your payment will stop and you can’t return to Australia due to COVID-19 related:

  • travel restrictions
  • quarantine rules
  • illness.

It may be possible to have your payment extended.

If you need direct deposit payments overseas

There are no changes to the way we’re paying direct deposit payments to customers outside Australia. We may need to temporarily pay you in another currency. This is if you live in a country affected by COVID-19 related financial market trading restrictions.

If you provide us with your bank account details we can arrange to pay you by direct deposit. To do this, download and complete the International bank account form.

If you need to correspond with us while overseas

If you live overseas, we’ve extended the timeframes for you to return correspondence to us. If you’ve received a letter from us requesting information, you’ll have 6 months to reply.
