People with disability - coronavirus (COVID-19)

If you get a disability payment from us there are no changes to your payment due to coronavirus.

There are changes to claims and your obligations due to coronavirus (COVID-19). This includes changes to waiting periods, the income test, what you need to give us, and your obligations. We’ve suspended participation requirements for Disability Support Pension. We’ve also paused a range of Centrelink debt raising and recovery activities.

You may get 1 or both Economic Support Payments from late April 2020. These will be paid as part of your normal payment.

If you’re concerned about coming to a service centre to do business with us you can use our self service options.

You can report your income in any of the following ways:

If there are changes to your circumstances, you can tell us by using any of the following:

If you don’t have access to a self service option, call the people with disability line.

Sickness Allowance special arrangements

You can keep getting Sickness Allowance until your medical certificate ends. If your circumstances change because of the coronavirus you don’t need to tell us:

  • if your employer closes
  • if you’re unable to study full time.

If you still need financial support when your medical certificate ends, you can transfer to JobSeeker Payment.

From 27 April 2020, if you’re getting Sickness Allowance or JobSeeker Payment you can also get the temporary fortnightly $550 Coronavirus Supplement.

National Disability Insurance Scheme

You can still access services under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The NDIS has more information about coronavirus in their disaster response.

Family and domestic Violence

If you’re affected by family and domestic violence, we can help. We provide information, support and referrals.
