How much you can get
The amount of Widow Allowance you can get depends on your circumstances.
We update rates on 20 March and 20 September each year.
You need to report your income to us every fortnight if it changes.
Living or travelling overseas can also affect your payment.
The highest rate you can get is $667.50 a fortnight.
Most types of income count in your income test. We use this and your assets test to assess if you can get a payment, and to calculate your rate of payment.
Keep in mind, new claims for Widow Allowance closed on 1 July 2018.
If you’re already getting Widow Allowance, you must continue to meet eligibility to keep your payment.
You may have to pay income tax on Widow Allowance.
If you got the Coronavirus Supplement, you need to declare it as income in your tax return for the 2020–21 financial year.
The Coronavirus Supplement won’t be shown separately on your Centrelink payment summary.
Your total Centrelink payment rate was increased if you were paid the Coronavirus Supplement.
