How much you can get
The amount of School Fees Allowance at home rate you get depends on how old your child is.
We pay the allowance at home rate until the year your child turns 16. There are 2 maximum rates, these are the most we can pay for a child living at home.
|If your child||Maximum rate of School Fees Allowance|
is younger than 16 on 30 June in the year of study
$156 a year
is turning 16 before 1 July in the year of study
$78 a year
Getting the allowance
We can pay School Fees Allowance at home rate in 1 of 2 ways.
We normally pay the allowance to the school unless you choose to pay the fees yourself. We pay it when your child starts school.
If you choose to pay the fees yourself, we pay it to you after you’ve given us proof of payment.
We pay the maximum rate if either:
- School Fees Allowance is paid to the school
- you choose to pay the fees yourself and they’re the same, or more than, the maximum rate.
If you pay the fees and they’re less than the maximum rate, we’ll pay enough to cover the fees.
