How much you can get
The amount of ABSTUDY Incidentals Allowance you can get depends on how long your course, apprenticeship or traineeship is each year.
The maximum amount of the allowance you can get depends on the length of the course.

|Under 12 weeks||$89.40 per course|
|12 to 16 weeks||$156.80 per course|
|17 to 23 weeks||$311.70 per course|
|24 to 52 weeks||$633.50 per course|
You can get more than 1 payment of the allowance if you’re either:
- studying 2 or more approved courses at the same time
- doing an apprenticeship or traineeship while studying 1 or more approved courses.
You can expect to hear from us within 21 days of submitting your claim.
If you’re a new student or Australian Apprentice you’ll get this when we approve your claim.
If you’re a continuing student or Australian Apprentice you’ll get this in late January.
Tax and Incidentals Allowance
You don’t need to pay tax on the allowance.
If you’re a tertiary, masters or doctorate student you may also get Additional Incidentals Allowance.
