myGov help - Set up the myGov Code Generator app

How to use and set up the myGov Code Generator app.

The myGov Code Generator app creates codes. You use these codes to sign in to myGov to access your Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support online accounts.

You can sign in to your myGov account through the myGov website. You can’t sign in through the myGov Code Generator app.

If you can’t get a code by SMS to sign in to myGov, use codes from myGov Code Generator instead. This is useful if you’re travelling overseas or have no mobile reception.

Before you download the app

If you use codes from myGov Code Generator, you can’t sign in to your myGov account if you:

  • delete the app from your device
  • lose your device with the app installed
  • get a new device and don’t update your myGov Account settings first.

You should set up a sign in back up so you can still sign in to myGov.

Using the app if you’re travelling overseas

Before you travel overseas, download and set up the myGov Code Generator app.

If you use secret question answers to sign in to myGov, you can set up the app while you’re overseas.
