Your payment may have stopped because we need your parents’ income

If your Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY payment has stopped, we may need your parent’s income.
Why your payment may have stopped
If you’re a dependent student getting Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY, we need your parents’ income details each year. We may have sent you a letter asking for this in late September. If we don’t get your parents’ income details by the date in the letter, we suspend your payment.
What you need to do
If you got a letter, get your parents to complete the income reassessment online.
We’ll automatically restore your payment if we get your parents’ income details within 13 weeks of when we suspended it.
If they don’t, we may cancel your payment.
If we do cancel your payment, your parents can still give us these details. If they do this within 13 weeks after we cancel it, we can restore your payment and you will get a back payment.
If they don’t, you’ll have to reapply and won’t get a back payment.
For ABSTUDY students, we need your parents’ income by 31 December or your payment will stop.
When your parents don’t know their income yet
Your parents may be able to give us an income estimate if they don’t know their income yet. If your parents have a good reason why they need more time, they can call us to talk about this. They can call the Youth and Students line or the ABSTUDY line, depending on what payment you get.
Why your payment stopped
If you didn’t get a letter about your parents’ income, but your payment has stopped, get in touch. Your payment may stop for another reason. If you can’t find that reason in your Centrelink online account, you can call us on your regular payment line.
