You may have to wait a week before your payment starts from 1 July 2021

17 June 2021

When you claim a payment on or after 1 July 2021, a one week waiting period may apply.

news item

Because of COVID-19, we waived the one week waiting period. It’s being reintroduced and may be applied if you claim one of these payments on or after 1 July 2021:

  • JobSeeker Payment
  • Parenting Payment
  • Youth Allowance for job seekers.

There may be waivers or exemptions for your circumstances. You can call us on your regular payment line at any time while serving a waiting period.

We’ll tell you if you have to serve the ordinary waiting period after your claim is assessed.

If you currently get a payment

If you’re currently getting one of the payments, you don’t need to do anything.

If your payment stops for another reason and you reclaim, you may need to serve this waiting period.
