What’s changing in the new year for job seekers?

Find out about upcoming changes due to coronavirus (COVID-19) and what you’ll need to do to keep getting your payment.
Coronavirus Supplement changes
From 1 January 2021, we’ll pay the temporary Coronavirus Supplement at a rate of $150 per fortnight. You’ll get this until 31 March 2021 if you’re getting at least $1 of an eligible income support payment. You don’t need to do anything.
JobKeeper Payment changes
The JobKeeper Payment rate changes from 4 January 2021. The payment will end on 28 March 2021.
Debt pause to end, repayments to start
In response to COVID-19, you may have had a break from repaying money you owe. This break will end in February and you'll need to start repaying money you owe.
Extended eligibility to end
The extended eligibility for JobSeeker Payment and Youth Allowance for job seekers ends on 31 March 2021.
Waiting periods waiver to end
On 31 March 2021, our temporary waiver for the following waiting periods ends:
- Ordinary Waiting Period
- Newly Arrived Resident’s Waiting Period
- Seasonal Work Preclusion Period.
