Time’s almost up to claim Family Tax Benefit (FTB) as a lump sum
20 April 2020
If you don’t claim FTB for the 2018-19 financial year by 30 June 2020, you’ll miss out.
If you already got FTB for the whole financial year, you don’t need to claim again.
You only need to claim if both of the following apply:
- you didn’t get FTB for some, or all of 2018-19 financial year
- you think you should have.
Make sure you submit your claim by 30 June 2020. You’ll also need to confirm your income by then. If you have a partner, they need to confirm their income too.
Call the families line if there are special circumstances stopping you, or your partner, from doing this before the deadline.

- news for families.
You don’t need to wait. You can claim as independent for a student payment 13 weeks before your 22nd birthday.
You should only visit a service centre if you’re well and don’t have any other choice.
