Stop scams by speaking up
8 November 2021
It’s Scams Awareness Week. Help protect people against scams by talking about them.
Scams target people of all backgrounds, ages and income levels and anyone can fall victim to a scam.
Scammers use a range of tricks to try and get your personal information and money.
Scams Awareness Week runs from 8 to 12 November. It’s a timely reminder to talk about scams and help someone identify a scam before it’s too late.
Help tackle scams, start the conversation by asking:
- Have you ever been scammed?
- How often do scammers contact you?
- What’s your top tip for avoiding scams?
Remember, anyone can be scammed. If you’ve been scammed by someone claiming to be from Services Australia or have concerns about the security of your Services Australia accounts, you should report it. You can report it to the Scams and Identity Theft Helpdesk on 1800 941 126.
Go to Scamwatch to find more information about how to recognise, avoid and report scams.
