Mutual obligation requirements are restarting

From 9 June 2020, these requirements will apply to people getting certain payments.
We temporarily suspended mutual obligation requirements in March 2020 due to coronavirus (COVID-19). We’re restarting requirements in a limited capacity from 9 June 2020.
These requirements may apply if you get any of these payments:
Keep in mind, suspensions and financial penalties won’t apply at this time.
What this change means for you
You should complete your Job Seeker Snapshot and Job Plan through the Online Employment Service, if you haven’t already.
If you’re connected to an employment services provider, you need to attend at least 1 phone or online appointment with them.
If you’re in online employment services, you can access online tools like the jobs board or job matching. This helps to keep you linked to the job market.
- be penalised if you can’t attend appointments with your provider
- have any compulsory job search requirements or other activities.
You should still attend job interviews or accept suitable work if you’re offered it. If you can, please complete the activities in your Job Plan.
Your provider, if you have one, is your best point of contact. You can also call the Employment Services National Customer Service Line on 1800 805 260.
What to do if you have a provider
If you already have a provider, check myGov to see when your next appointment is. You can use either your:
What to do if you don’t have a provider
If you don’t have a provider, the Department of Education, Skills and Employment will contact you. They'll SMS, email or call to tell you:
- how to sign in to the Online Employment Service
- to complete the Job Seeker Snapshot and create a Job Plan.
Once you’ve completed these steps, they’ll tell you who your employment services provider is. Your provider will also contact you and ask you to attend an appointment by phone or online. At the appointment, you can talk about your Job Plan to find out what you need to do.
If you stay in online employment services, you’ll have access to a range of services on the jobactive website.
If you have a job to go back to, you should still complete the online tasks. Your provider will tailor your Job Plan to suit your situation.
Your provider will let you know when your requirements change, to reflect work opportunities in your area.
If you’re a sole trader or self employed
If you’re a sole trader or self employed, you don’t have to meet mutual obligation requirements. This is so you can work to restart your business.
If you’re referred to an employment services provider, please call us on your regular payment line. We’ll tell you if you’re exempt or not.
