More coronavirus (COVID-19) support if you get Child Care Subsidy

5 August 2021

If your child attends care in a COVID-19 hotspot, you may be eligible for more Child Care Subsidy (CCS) absences.

You can now access these absences if your child attends or attended care in a Commonwealth declared COVID-19 hotspot in:

  • Greater Sydney
  • Greater Melbourne from 5 and 19 August
  • South East Queensland from 31 July to 8 August
  • Victoria from 15 to 27 July.

These are also known as allowable absences for a special purpose.

Absences will be available from the date the area was declared a hotspot until it ends.

You don’t need to do anything. If you’re eligible they will automatically be applied.

This means you won’t have to use your regular 42 allowable absences.

You can view your extra allowable absences for a special purpose in your Centrelink online account through myGov or Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.
