Look out for a letter from us asking about your parents’ income
13 September 2021
If you’re a dependent student or job seeker getting Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY, this will help you keep your payment.
If you’re under 22, you might get a letter from us this month.
Why we send the letters
Each year, until you turn 22, we ask for your parents’ income. We use it to work out if you’re still eligible for a payment and how much you can get.
What you need to do
You need to give the letter to your parents as soon as you can. They’ll need to go online to update their income details. Make sure they do this by the date in the letter, so your payment doesn’t stop.
If your parents’ income has dropped recently, we may be be able to use their current year’s income. This includes if the impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19) have reduced their income.
If you don’t get a letter, you don’t need to do anything.
Learn more about the annual parental income reasssessment and how your parents can give us their income details.
