Directors fees affect your Centrelink payment
8 October 2021
You must report directors fees as employment income when you receive them, even if you reinvest them into your business.
Directors fees are assessable employment income because you get them for work you do.
This means they count towards the income test we use to work out:
- if you can get a Centrelink payment
- what amount to pay you.
You must include directors fees you or your partner get when you report your employment income to us.
This applies even if you reinvest the fees into your business.
Reporting your employment income correctly helps us pay you the right amount. It also stops you being paid too much and having to pay us money back.
