Census date is nearly here, so tell us if your study details change

24 March 2021

It’s important you tell us about any changes to your study if you get Youth Allowance, Austudy or ABSTUDY.

We know many students make changes to their study plans before census date. It may be deciding to drop a subject, or deferring study for another year. Census date is when your TAFE, university or VET provider finalises your enrolment. It’s the last day you can withdraw from a course without being charged or adding to your HELP loan. You can find your TAFE, university or VET provider's census date on their website.

When you need to tell us

When you get a student payment, you need to tell us about changes to your study details within 14 days. This includes if you do any of the following:

  • drop a subject and now have a different study load
  • change your course, campus or course provider
  • stop studying.

Telling us makes sure we pay you correctly. If you don’t tell us, you could end up owing money which you’ll need to pay back.

Use our online guide to help you update your study details using your Centrelink online account through myGov. You can also update your details from your device using the Express Plus Centrelink mobile app.
