Are you expecting a baby?
2 September 2020
We have payments and services to support new parents.
If you’re expecting a baby you can check if you’re eligible for any payments.
Your family may get the following payments to help with time off to care for your newborn:
Once your new baby arrives, we know how busy you’ll be. To make it easier, you can claim some payments as early as 3 months before your baby arrives. This is a pre-birth claim. By completing a pre-birth claim you can spend less time doing paperwork, and more time with your new baby.
When your baby arrives, your hospital or midwife will give you a Parent Pack. It contains a Newborn Child Declaration. Your doctor or midwife will need to fill out the Proof of Birth declaration on the back page.
If you’re making a claim, once the Newborn Child Declaration is complete, take a photo of it and upload it. You can do this using your Express Plus Centrelink mobile app or Centrelink online account through myGov. We require this to finalise your claim. You’ll also need to register the birth of your baby to get Parental Leave Pay and Dad and Partner Pay.

The Australian Government announced support if you live in Western Australia or New South Wales and can't earn an income.
If you live in Victoria, you can do most of your Centrelink and Medicare business online. This includes making claims for new payments.
