Changes to Medicare Online from 4 October

6 October 2022

From 4 October 2022, you need PRODA and web services if you use software to send Medicare Online claims and data to us.

You need to upgrade your software to PRODA and web services for Medicare Online claiming. This includes Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Australian Immunisation Register claiming.

You don’t need to do anything if you:

  • don’t use software
  • use Health Professional Online Services (HPOS).

Other programs, such as PBS and ECLIPSE aren’t impacted at this stage.

What this means for you

Healthcare locations impacted by this change will have their access removed over a 6-8 week period from 4 October 2022.

We’ll notify you through email if you’re impacted and need to upgrade your software to PRODA and web services.

Talk to your software developer to check if:

  • your organisation is using upgraded software
  • you need a PRODA Organisation account.

If you need to upgrade, use the Software developers for Medicare Online and ECLIPSE list to find developers with a web services product.

You can use Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) to submit Medicare Online claims and data until your software is upgraded.
