Beware of scams that promise a tax refund or bonus

24 June 2021

It’s tax time, and that means scammers may target Services Australia customers.

Scammers may pretend to be from myGov, Centrelink or the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). They try to trick you into giving them money or personal details. They may say you can get a tax time refund or bonus, or that you need to pay a debt.

You need to watch out for fake emails, websites, phone calls, and text messages.

You can help reduce the risk of getting scammed at tax time by keeping track of key dates. This includes when refunds, debt repayments or lodgements are due.
