Afghan humanitarian visa 449 Medicare extension

Published: 5 December 2022

Health professionals can continue to claim Medicare benefits for people evacuated from Afghanistan on or after 19 August 2021.

We’ve extended Medicare entitlements to 30 November 2023 for Afghanistan humanitarian visa 449 holders.

The extension applies for people who had valid visas extended.

We’ll send them a new Medicare card. If they don’t have it yet, they can use their Medicare card number. To get their card number, they can call the Medicare program line.
